SISTTA x Celium™: Responsible Design, Contemporary Expression

At The Biofab Fair by Biofabricate, during London Design Festival, Polybion introduced a new collaboration with SISTTA by Battassi Design Studio, a Mexican footwear brand redefining luxury through intentional, small-scale production.

Together, we created a pair of high-top sneakers crafted with Celium™, our Premium Cultivated Cellulose, in a distinctive denim blue tone.

Rooted in Craft, Guided by Responsibility

Handmade in León, Guanajuato, SISTTA’s collections are built on the principles of responsibility and precision. The brand produces in limited runs to avoid overproduction, uses recycled textiles for linings, and follows a pre-order model to minimize waste.

By integrating Celium™ into their design process, SISTTA explored how a biomaterial grown from bacteria could merge with traditional footwear craftsmanship, from hand-stitching to machine assembly, while maintaining durability and flexibility.

The sneakers presented in London highlight Celium™’s ability to withstand the mounting process of the upper onto the sole, one of the toughest tests in footwear manufacturing. Beyond performance, each pair stands out for its natural texture and visual depth, born from biological growth.

A Shared Vision of Design and Permanence

For SISTTA, sustainability is expressed through time, through products made to last, not to follow cycles of overproduction. For Polybion, it’s about expanding the meaning of innovation to include biology, creativity, and human intention.
